Mark 16:15
"And
he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
to every creature."
Leslie
and Brenda Lyons, from Northern Ireland, came to Spain as missionaries
on 5th April 1975. Their work started in Benidorm and branched out
to other towns on the Costa Blanca where there were then no evangelical
churches. Their vision is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ first
to those who come to church and then to the communities where the
churches are located.
The
churches have Sunday school and recreational activities, a loop
system for the hard of hearing and wheelchair access. In Benidorm,
Calpe and Javea there are facilities to translate the services into
English, Spanish and German, and in Torrevieja, Norwegian.
In
the last 5 years other doors have opened for evangelism, visiting
in the Foncalent detention centre and psychiatric prison in Alicante
and helping to establish a Bible Union in Alicante University.
Benidorm and Calpe
have their own church buildings. Calpe has a beautiful purpose built
church thanks to the faithful giving of the members here and others
who have a vision for the work, especially the Filadelphia church
in Rotterdam.
The
churches are registered as independent churches within the Federation
of Evangelical churches in Spain and with the Ministry of Justice
no. 2927 SE/A.
